Increasing Communication Capabilities
Airman 1st Class Shala "Squeaky" Santiago, a Ground Radio Journeyman from the 379th Expeditionary Communications Squadron, performs a beta test for an Ultra-High Frequency/Very-High Frequency crossband solution. The solution allows people using UHF radios to talk to those with VHF radios; essentially allowing personnel using a land mobile radio to communicate with aircraft in the area if needed. Airman Santiago is native to Colorado Springs, Colo. and is deployed from Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedoms and Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa.
