Gym opening honors fallen comrade
LAGHMAN PROVINCE, Afghanistan – Army Staff Sgt. Alberto Perez cuts the ribbon to reopen the newly-renovated fitness center, renamed in honor of Army Staff Sgt. Charles R. Browning, here Feb. 14. Sergeant Browning, a 1st Battalion, 158th Infantry Soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device June 1, 2007 responding to an emergency call from the local community. The Humvee he was riding in ran over the IED killing him instantly and injuring four others. Sergeant Browning volunteered for a one-year deployment to provide security for Methar Lam Provincial Reconstruction Team to help the government of Afghanistan with its security, governance and reconstruction.
