Senior Airman Scott Johnson, 379th Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Aerospace Ground Equipment shop, reviews locations of each filter needed for a phase 2 inspection, October 13, 2008. Knowing the location of each filter saves time as each filter is pulled from the shelf in preparation for a complete filter change on an air conditioning/heating unit at an undisclosed air base in Southwest Asia. A phase 2 is an in-depth inspection checking each system on the unit, including changing out filters and all fluids. In the desert heat, air conditioning units are mission essential because without them aircraft components would overheat during pre-flight operation checks. Airman Johnson is a native of Warner Robins, Ga., and is deployed from Kadena Air Base, Japan, in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
