Operations Iraqi Freedom, Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa
Staff Sgt. Heather Mendiola, non-commissioned officer in charge of emergency management logistics assigned to the 379th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron, performs an operational check on a hazardous material identifier Oct. 1, 2008, at an undisclosed air base in Southwest Asia. The equipment is used to produce a presumptive identification of liquid, powder, or solid hazardous materials so emergency management can provide instruction on what type of protective gear is required. Sergeant Mendiola, a native of New Castle, Del., is deployed from Anderson Air Base, Guam, in support of Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa.
