Bringing the voice
Senior Airman Kyle Troxell, 379th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron, operates a 60-ton crane efficiently lifting a new Giant Voice tower onto its cement block mount Aug. 26, 2008, at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia. Senior Airman Clinton Rowland, 379th Expeditionary Communications Squadron, holds a rope attached to the top left leg of the tower, while Staff Sgt. Clyde Hunt, 379 ECS, holds a line attached to the tower’s bottom right leg. The ropes are used as guides to keep the tower in line once in the air. Sergeant Hunt, Airman Rowland and Airman Troxell are members of a team exchanging aging towers with a sturdier replacement that should last nearly twice as long. The Giant Voice system is used to communicate important information to all the base population instantaneously. Sergeant Hunt, a native of Shreveport La., is deployed from the Louisiana Air National Guard. Airman Rowland hails from Athens, Ga., and is deployed from Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom. Airman Troxell is deployed from Scott Air Force Base, Ill. All are supporting Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom and Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa. (U.S. Air Force photo by Tech. Sgt.
