Airman, Soldiers share in “Sports Day” with local children
2nd Lt. Katharine Donovan helps a child, from the American School of Doha in Qatar, prepare for a sack race during Sports Day, Feb. 2, 2014. Established in 2011, the Qatar National Sports Day prompted a government mandate that all schools develop a “sports day” the week prior to the national holiday to create awareness about sports and its health benefits in an effort to meet the challenges of a rapidly increasing youthful population. This year Qatar National Sports Day takes place Feb. 11. Donovan is serving a one year tour with 609 Air Operations Center Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Division at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar, and is a Chesapeake, Va., native.
