HVAC keeps AUAB chilled
Staff Sgt. Erik Nelson, 379th Expeditionary Civil Engineer Squadron heating, ventilation and air conditioning journeyman, uses a voltmeter in search of an electrical short on a chiller June 27, 2016, at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. Nelson and other HVAC Airmen spent several hours fixing the unit that supplies cool air to a nearby facility housing computer and communications equipment. HVAC specialists ensure communications servers and satellite feeds all over the base maintain a standard temperature to mitigate equipment issues. They also provide a better quality of life for service members and coalition forces here by maintaining cooling equipment in billeting, dining and other living facilities. HVAC members see four times more work in the desert environment of AUAB than they do stateside. The HVAC team provided 10,000 hours of preventive maintenance to air conditioning and refrigeration units here during their six-month deployment rotation. (U.S. Air Force photo/Technical Sgt.
