Afghan meteorologists showcase capabilities to forecast weather changes from mountain to desert ranges

Capt. Haley Homan, Train, Advise, Assist Command – Air (TAAC-Air) weather advisor, demonstrates how to use a Kestrel – an instrument to measure temperature, moisture, wind speed and pressure. The Afghan Air Force (AAF) weather forecasters participated in the practical exercise and reported weather observations such as visibility, sky condition and wind direction, which the Kestrel cannot sense. This was a milestone in sustainability and professionalism of the AAF operation support squadron. The AAF director of meteorology hosted a two-week course at the Kabul Air Wing, Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, Afghanistan, where five Afghan weather officers from across Afghanistan came together to hone their skills and learn new techniques. The Afghan Air Force director of meteorology teaches a course on forecasting codes to Afghan weather officers at the Kabul Air Wing, Hamid Karzai International Airport, Kabul, Afghanistan. This colonel reached a major milestone for sustainability and professionalism of the AAF operation support squadron by hosting a two-week course to bring Afghan weather officers from across Afghanistan together to hone their skills and learn new techniques.
