11/6/2009 - SOUTHWEST ASIA  -- Coalition airpower integrated with ground forces in Iraq and the International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan in the following operations October 28 according to Combined Air and Space Operations Center officials here.

Air Operations in Afghanistan:

Lashkar Gah
Air Force A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft flew armed overwatch in the for a friendly forces foot patrol. The friendly forces patrol reported receiving enemy fire and requested air power assistance to deter the hostile action. Aircrews confirmed coordinates of the enemy positions and conducted a strafing run on the target. The aircraft continued to provide ongoing surveillance for friendly forces and when the patrol came under fire again a show of force was successfully performed. Later, aircrews observed enemy forces approaching a friendly compound and successfully performed another show of force to deter further action.

Musa Qaleh
Air Force B-1B Lancer aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces' convoy. The aircraft provided reconnaissance of the area looking for suspicious activity in and around the convoy route. When suspicious activity was observed, a show of force was successfully performed to deter possible enemy action.

Remak
Air Force F-15E strike Eagle aircraft in the skies providing overwatch for friendly ground forces. The ground forces came under enemy fire and requested shows of force to deter enemy action. The shows of force were successful as the enemy action was terminated.

Tirgari
F-15E aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces foot patrol. Strafing runs and precision guided munitions were employed when enemy forces were seen approaching friendly units, the action eliminated the threat. A show of force, with flares released, was then conducted as a further security measure.

Asmar
F-15E aircraft provided overwatch for friendly forces. Enemy forces were seen approaching a friendly forces position and attacked the friendly position. A precision guided munition was employed on the enemy position which terminated the enemy action.



Konduz
Air Force F-16C Fighting Falcon aircraft were providing armed overwatch for a friendly forces' convoy. They were providing reconnaissance ahead of the convoy for any possible Improvised Explosive Device emplacers and activity along the route. A show of force was requested when a possible IED team was observed. The show of force was conducted and successfully deterred any enemy action.

Morghab
Coalition aircraft provided armed overwatch for a friendly forces' convoy. A show of force was requested when unknown personnel were seen along the convoy route. The show of force was considered successful when the personnel scattered during the show of force.
