12/8/2013 - SOUTHWEST ASIA  -- The Air Force inspector general, visited the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing to speak with Airmen here and answer questions, Dec. 3, 2013.

Air Force Lt. Gen. Stephen Mueller, the Air Force inspector general, encouraged Airmen to ask questions.

"I am here not to inspect you, but to see how you all are doing," said Mueller. "I'm here to see you and find out what's on your minds."

Mueller spoke to Airmen about the effects of sequestration, the new enlisted performance rating system, the new inspection system and life in the Air Force.

The general explained that he works for the Secretary of the Air Force and, as the IG, it is his job to listen to concerns Airmen have that regarding any issues with effectiveness, efficiency or discipline.

Airmen took the general up on the opportunity to ask about the Air Force's new inspection system.

Air Force Staff Sgt. Zachary Sickler, a comptroller assigned to the 380th AEW, asked how inspections are changing due to sequestration.

Mueller explained that more inspections are necessary to make sure the Air Force is looking at processes and procedures to ensure we are doing them both efficiently and cost effectively.
Air Force Senior Master Sgt. Jerry Glover, 380th Expeditionary Operations Group first sergeant, asked about the inspection process.

The general explained that prior to the new system people would hear about the inspection process through word of mouth from other people.

"The inspection process is new and I encourage you to review the inspection process for yourself," he said. "The inspection system is even covered in the new Professional Development Guide."

Before leaving, the general thanked the Airmen for what they do for the Air Force.

"Less than one percent of the U.S. population serves in the Air Force," said Mueller. "You are the cream of the crop and the reason why we are the world's greatest Air Force."
