Afghanistan evac operations: Airmen experiences
“It is so humbling. Four months ago when I arrived here, I never thought I would be doing this. We all have dedicated jobs, and my job is driving the evacuees from the processing center to the aircraft that will take them to their next destination. Being able to help everyone, seeing how it all operates and being a direct link, I really don’t know how else to describe it but humbling. We’ve been able to touch so many lives and been able to help so many people go on to bigger and better futures. We’re going on day six of 14-hour shifts, and it’s worth it. To be a part of any aspect of the operations has been very humbling for me. It really shows you what’s going on in the world.” – Senior Airman Bradley Scott Murphy, 379th Air Expeditionary Wing. Service members of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, as well as other supporting agencies are working 24/7 to support ongoing evacuation operations out of Afghanistan Aug. 21, 2021, at Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar. As part of the operation, thousands of qualified evacuees continue to arrive here from Hamid Karzai International Airport, Afghanistan, on board multiple military aircraft. The Department of Defense is committed to supporting the evacuation of American citizens, Special Immigrant Visa applicants and other at-risk individuals from Afghanistan.
