    Exercise Atlas Mountain brings together three coalition partners, puts flight line safety to the test

    After months of planning, the U.S. Air Force joined with its coalition partners from the United Kingdom and Qatar to take part in an exercise on the runway at Al Udeid Air Base. The exercise, originally proposed by the UK in order to satisfy internal safety requirements, was designed to test the effectiveness of an emergency response to an aircraft accident on the runway. By the time the exercise took place on Oct. 3, it involved around 120 to 150 service members from three coalition forces.

    Every aircraft flying into or out of Al Udeid Air Base on a mission with the U.S. Air Mobility Command, begins and ends their time on base with a call to someone at the Air Mobility Command Center operated by the 8th Expeditionary Air Mobility Squadron.

    Al Udeid Air Base ships its first unit of cold storage platelets to the AOR

    The 379th Expeditionary Medical Group shipped its first unit of cold storage platelets on Aug. 17 to a location within the U.S. Air Forces Central Command Area of Responsibility. The shipment marked the first time cold storage platelets have been stored and shipped from Al Udeid Air Base for use in the AOR.

    Fueling the AOR

    The 340th and the 22nd Expeditionary Aircraft Maintenance Units work together around the clock here to inspect, repair, service, launch and recover the fleet of KC-135 Stratotankers.

    Airfield management provides a safe, effective and efficient airfield

    “Airfield Management has three requirements; provide a safe, efficient and effective airfield,” said U.S. Air Force Tech. Sgt. Joseph Sigmon, airfield manager, 379th EOSS, “no matter how we operate day to day, no matter how we do it, we must meet those three things.”

    The AFCENT Band is using music to touch hearts and soften boundaries

    If you get the opportunity to watch the Air Force Central Command Band in action, you need to do it. Their enthusiasm and passion for music is contagious. The transcendent quality of music, coupled with the excellence of the musicians that play it, is a powerful combination. Music has been used by the U.S. Air Force for decades as an effective diplomatic tool.

    Bone marrow registration drive provides service members with the opportunity to save a life

    The thought of donating bone marrow sounds scary to most people, and if you listen to many of the stories, it sounds painful too. In reality, for the small percentage of people on the registry who are actually matched to a recipient and called to donate, it is very likely a bit of both. However, that’s not what the volunteers and donors involved in the most recent bone marrow donor drive, held at Al Udeid Air Base from May 15 – 19, 2017, were thinking about. For them, the opportunity of providing hope or ultimately saving a life far outweighed any apprehension or fear of pain.
