Weather forecasters use the system to get current weather conditions such as winds, temperature, humidity, range of visibility, cloud ceiling, and to detect lightning. BAGRAM AIRFIELD, AFGHANISTAN -- TSgt. Neel Rodgers, a Battlefield Weather Forecaster with 19th Expeditionary Weather Squadron, was recently named 455th Air Expeditionary Wing "Warrior of the Week" by CMSgt Marcus Snoddy, 455 AEW command chief master sergeant at Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan.

According to Rodgers' peers, his knowledge and accurate anticipation of area weather patterns were instrumental in the successful completion of combat missions leading to interventions against 55 insurgents and the destruction of more than 80 Improvised Explosive Devices.

Battlefield Weather Forecasters integrate weather intelligence into deliberate operations and mission planning in accordance with their Army Commander's objectives. They use a varied combination of hardware and software to get current weather conditions such as winds, temperature, humidity, range of visibility, cloud ceiling, and to detect lightning.
